Three bands in Logan Square on a Sunday in July. A short set, a hot room, and the best crowd noise between songs we have had all year.
Sunday night at Cole’s Bar in Logan Square, on a bill with Dorio and Smooie. If you have not played Cole’s: the stage is in the back, the room is long, and the sound gets better the more people are in it.
Short set, no coasting
Three bands on a Sunday means everybody gets a tight window, which we have come to prefer. There is no room to warm up over four songs — you walk on and the set has already started. We opened loud and stayed there.
The thing we will remember is the noise between songs. Not polite clapping. Actual shouting, from people who knew what was coming next. That has not always been true for us and we do not take it for granted.

Dorio and Smooie both deserve your time. Chicago has an absurd number of good bands playing to forty people on a Sunday, and the only fix is going to the shows.

August is busy — Schubas on the 6th, Liar’s Club on the 13th, and Cubby Bear on the 20th with The Dream Eaters and Jeremy Weber. Three very different rooms in three weeks.
